Course Description

The course is made up of two sections with four lessons each. The lessons start off by explaining the workflow steps and then demonstrates its implementation on the exercise building with video software walkthroughs. 

Learning Objectives

  1. Convert a building information model to an analytical model and coordinate information between environments.
  2. Create complete volumetric space boundaries by applying the fundamental building modeling techniques.
  3. Configure the export of a gbXML file and troubleshoot integration errors that would occur from typical scenarios.

Revit Exercise

The project configuration section starts with a single-family residential design project and creates a building analytical model from it. The visibility settings and project settings are adjusted to effectively convert the second level space boundaries.

Spider Viewer

The geometry modeling sections covers how to position building model elements such as the building shell and its core, along with floors, roofs, and shading surfaces. These elements are configured to export enclosed analytical volumes for building energy modeling purposes. 

Model Coordination

The workflow facilitates in-depth troubleshooting of the model’s geometry by evaluating the errors in the viewer and correcting them in the analytical view. This process enables users to convert design projects to analytical models and produce space boundaries with gbXML for energy modeling.
